Just a few words that come to mind when I first laid eyes on April's new line Arizona....soft, silky, dreamy, modern, movement, tribal, bohemian.
When the fabric arrived in the mail I had high expectations because she's designing for Art Gallery. I'm happy to report the fabric exceeded my expectations. I'll admit it. I'm picky about fabric! I want my garments to feel just as good on my body as they do off. Art Galley has always impressed me with their quality and the new voile is even yummier! Now they're impressing me with amazing new designers. Designer, April Rhodes I am especially excited they reached out to.
Before living in Oregon, I lived in Ohio. A few years before we moved away an amazing fabric shop opened,"Sew to Speak". April and her mother own this amazing shop that inspired me to sew again, design and create. If my mom hadn't found this amazing shop I would not be who or where I am today. I am forever grateful for these two amazing gals.
If you haven't had the pleasure to meet April in person then I hope one day you do because she is nothing short of inspiring not to mention warm, genuine, giving and I love her laugh! Shortly after I met her I asked her to take some photos for me of my first clothing line I was going to put on Etsy and they turned out amazing. I can't believe this was 8 years ago when she took these photos.
I knew from the moment I met her she had talent oozing out of her pores. I remember bugging her all the time to sell things, make things and share her talents with the world. I'm so happy she decided to start designing patterns that are hip and super fun to sew and now we all get to roll around in her fabric too! I'm seriously considering making myself a duvet in one of her prints. I just can't seem to get enough! But, before I move on to making that duvet I'd love to share a little EOS blouse I made with one of her voile prints. The fabric feels like pure butter in your hands and I know whoever gets to wear this little blouse will be thrilled that it doesn't itch her toddler skin all while looking fabulous!
Happy Sewing - Shelly

What a beautiful blouse and I too cannot wait to get ahold of this beautiful line. My children, grandchildren, family and being outside inspire me daily. The colors and movements of life are amazing.

I’m inspired by texture created by graphic elements. Textiles, patterns, nature. It all comes together.

I initially got into sewing after seeing a friend’s cool quilt project posted on Facebook. Since then, I draw inspiration from bloggers and folks on instagram to help me visualize what I can do with fabrics. Sometimes I have trouble knowing what to do with something when I see it on the bolt, but when I see what someone else has done with a certain print (or series of prints), I’m like “hey, I can do that too!”

Hydrangeas inspire me. And dogwood trees. And blue fields of silla. I love to see foliage come to life in the spring with the bulbs popping up, and the trees budding into beauty. It’s just such a wonderful unfurling from dark grey winter. It’s lovely.
