About
Figgy’s is a creation stemmed from love, passion & dedication. What started with the idea of a sewing company and one single pattern became the acclaimed Patterns by Figgy’s and transformed yet again into the company that it was always meant to be; Figgy’s. We create simple to make patterns with modern style and contemporary taste that won’t be out of style in a season or two. Alongside those attributes you will find well written instructions, professional illustrations & the security of knowing that each of our patterns has been tested by professional and non-professional sewists. There is an African proverb that states “It takes a village to raise a child” and at Figgy’s it is no different. Here is who works and lives in our village.
Shelly Figueroa – the heart and soul of Figgy’s. It was her vision that brought Figgy’s to life and her relentless dedication to where it is today. She is the co-author of the well-loved book “Sewing for Boys”, Wiley Publishing 2011, a contributing designer for the book “Sewn Hats”, Wiley Publishing 2012. She is a sewing instructor for Modern Domestic Sewing Studio and is well known at the local fabric shops in in Portland, Oregon for workshops and pattern design. Patterns by Figgys (2008-2011) was featured on the pages of Sewing World, Sew Hip , Sew Wow, Craftzine, Making, Cloth and Simply Homemade magazines and on numerous sewing/crafting blogs around the world.
Born and raised in Westerville, Ohio, she currently resides in the “Creative Capital of the USA”: Portland, Oregon with her husband Adam and two sons. In her spare time…..um what spare time?
You can usually find her volunteering at her sons schools, reading young adult novels, knitting while sipping lavender tea and dreaming about one day going to Hawaii!
Daniela Caine - lucky enough has already been to Hawaii. Maybe that’s why she shares Shelly’s vision. Daniela has worked over a decade in design leadership positions for some of the biggest sport apparel companies: Adidas, Nike and Columbia Sportswear. After leaving the corporate world in 2008, she quickly rekindled the love affair with her sewing machine. She launched the eco-friendly yoga apparel line seek, co-founded Quilts for Quake Survivors, a community fundraising effort to benefit japans earthquake victims. Her ‘work’ away from work has been published in books like ‘Modern Log Cabin Quilting’ by Susan Beal and ‘Sewing for Boys’ by Shelly Figueroa and Karen LePage, for which she designed boy specific fabric and graphic design. She works as a freelance designer for the sport and outdoor industry and is a sewing instructor at Modern Domestic Sewing Studio just like Shelly.
Born and raised in Munich, Germany, she now lives in beautiful Portland, OR with her husband and their four year old daughter. Her spare time is spent on the yoga mat, the mountain or the coast and – obviously – at her sewing machine!
